Reflection

Experience

This task was part of an integrated project with another module, Brand Corporate Identity. It was intriguing as it marked my first time engaging in a similar task for two distinct modules. Initially, creating a design that was both consistent and reflective of my brand posed a significant challenge, causing some initial distress. However, after receiving feedback from both Mr. Vinod and Ms. Lilian, I gained a clearer vision of how to approach the task.

Observation
I primarily drew on the insights gained from Task 2 and 3 of BCI to shape the overall look and feel of the brand guidelines. My goal was to accurately represent my brand while avoiding excessive adjustments that could deviate too far from the brand image. Additionally, I applied lessons from Publishing Design regarding the strategic use of grids and guides before making substantial layout changes. As mentioned, the initial stages of crafting the right design and layout for the brand guidelines posed a considerable challenge. However, I eventually found my way through the project and persevered until its completion.

Finding
This task proved to be a valuable learning experience, requiring the application of knowledge gained from both previous tasks and another module. Reflecting on it, I believe there was room for more exploration in terms of design and interactivity in the brand guidelines. Moving forward, I acknowledge the importance of managing my time more efficiently and seeking additional references to enhance my skills in designing a brand guideline.

Reference: The Vignelli Canon

In the beginning of the book the author says that they have always said that there are three aspects in Design that are important to me: Semantic, Syntactic and Pragmatic. Semantics refers to the search of the meaning of whatever we have to design.  That may start with research on the history of the subject to better understand the nature of the project and to find the most appropriate direction for the development of a new design. It is extremely important for a satisfactory result of any design to spend time on the search of the accurate and essential meanings, investigate their complexities, learn about their ambiguities, understand the context of use to better define the parameters within which we will have to operate.
